Judy Granville is a rare breed of singer-songwriter who began performing and producing records in her sixties.

Judy retired and moved to Brighton, following in the footsteps of many musicians who have made that city their home, and before long she found herself learning guitar and acquiring an electric Fender. What emerged was a prolific singer-songwriter.

Her vocal style could perhaps evoke Grace Slick, but you might say her songs cross rock with soul, folk and the odd injection of punk. Some of her many musical influences include Bonnie Raitt, Police, Richard Thompson and Billy Nomates.

Her last song , BE STILL AND WAIT, as illustrated in the video, takes us on a walk in the mountains - in the midst of confusion and uncertainty. What happens next - well you’ll have to listen to find out! The tune alternates between sedate narrative and an uncompromising rock riff.

“In BE STILL AND WAIT [Judy] wields the power of gritty rock aesthetics, with catchy melodies and spoken word infusions to give you a sonic experience like no other.” - Lost in the Manor – Head Editor

“The songwriting is perhaps one of the most interesting elements of the track.” Bowe - Brand New Tracks – Good Music Radar

“With the electric guitar coming in between the verses are grunge-like pump-ups. The song is a chill number, one that has a sarcastic tone yet philosophy-heavy.

‘Be still and wait’ is a slow country rock that the local radio station has fallen in love with and plays every two hours.”  - Sinusoidal Music - Vishalnaidu

"Judy’s lyrics really hit home... the way she delivers it is heavenly." - Sam Wright, RGM Magazine

Out now!

Judy Granville’s new release:

STILL

Released on 18 July 2025, STILL is different in tempo to Judy’s recent upbeat danceable tracks. Here is a heartfelt song in which she looks back on the passing of her mum a few years ago, sharing with us the feeling of loss and the strangeness of it all.  We are transported to a nostalgic world via her three-part harmonies and characteristic thought-provoking lyrics.

As on Judy’s previous songs, Chris Hookway features on bass and Theseus Gerard on drums, and on this occasion she is joined by acclaimed musicians Nelson Day on piano and Scott Booth on guitar.  The track was recorded at The Homeward Recording Company.

The video, filmed in Brighton by Mat Green of MHG Music Videos, brings us other-worldly black-and-white images of the coastline at nightfall, shot with aerial views.

STILL is an unusual song, blending mystery, bereavement and poignancy.
